Fear is Mindfulness

I was walking through the woods with my friend, and we came across an old hunting stand in a tree. A few widely spaced pegs led up to a little seat 30 feet up.

I thought to myself, how scary would it be to climb up there?

And with that I knew I had to do it.

The pegs seemed sturdy enough, so I went. Each little metal piece was a reach to get to, but slowly I climbed.

And what was I thinking about when climbing that tree?

Nothing.

No emails, no ruminating, no fear of the future. Only a Primal desire to not die and nothing else. This was real, a moment of perfect mindfulness, and nothing else.
