One Hard Thing Every Morning

Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life. – Pavel Tsatsulin

Morning routines are overrated. As someone who has overcomplicated them, I know how unsustainable they can be.

But the point of the routine is not the routine. It’s the accountability. It’s structured discomfort.

Because few things feel better than conquering an uncomfortable mountain. It’s one of life’s best natural highs.

And the best way to guarantee that daily dose of natural crack, is to hit the discomfort pipe first thing in the morning.

It can be the same thing every morning, or picked from a personal a la cart menu. It could be as simple as a cold soak in the shower, as complicated as a long workout.

For some people, the hard thing is not snoozing. Just getting out of bed. The goal could be getting up just one alarm sooner than normal.

It could be waking up ten minutes earlier. Or just a few distraction-free deep breaths.

However we choose to start our day is a signal to the rest of the day.

So gaze deeply into the eyes of chaos and win back that morning. You’re worth some you-time.

Morning workout, circa 2014. Deadlifting with solid form.
