Kevin Rose – January 3, 2016

Kevin Rose – the random show
  • Set holiday/travel plans early, and you get 6 months of anticipation.
  • New years resolutions – do a complete review of the previous year. Journals, lists, quotes. Review.
  • Do a stacation to focus on organizing, home, etc.
  • Fasting can, in theory lead to a purging of pre-cancer cells for someone over 35. Can lower igfi, which can possibly improve longevity.
  • Don’t do a one week fast without medical supervision. Juice fasts devour muscle tissue. Get into ketosis as quickly as possible to preserve muscle tissue on a fast.
    • On a week fast, only light exercise, expect lower productivity.
  • Intermittent fasting to get you into keto and burn more fat than muscle. But most people mess this up. Bf% shoots up, muscle messes up.
  • TF goal – create things with no profit motive, do it just for fun. Make some short films.
  • App: KR tracked his alcohol consumption. So many calories! App called way of life.
  • KR – resolutions –
    • Watch one TED talk a day
    • Sauna 3x a week
    • Two or less drinks per day
    • Track fitness, meditation
    • Track tea consumption
    • Slow carb
  • If a goal isn’t on the calendar, and there are no stakes, you won’t do it.
  • If trying to form a new habit, try to combine it with something you enjoy. Like cardio with a podcast you like.
  • Kava bars in NY – tastes like dirt, but completely mellows you.
  • Meditation – sit on a cushion, focus on your breathing for the duration of one song you like.
  • Headspace app – ten day Challenge.
  • Stress isn’t necessary to solve a problem. To make them less stressful, ask yourself, what would make this easy? Is there something you can change to help facilitate a smoother process to solving the problem or building a habit?
  • Wild planet sardines every morning.
  • Book – happy money, the science of happier spending.
  • Maiden Lane – high end canned fish paired with wine and cheese.
  • Book – radical acceptance – how to stop beating yourself up.
  • TF – treat yourself as you would a very close friend.
  • Book – the good gut – about gut bacteria and how it influences overall health. C sections prevent a child from getting good bacteria from the mother, instead getting bad bacteria from the nurse.
  • Quotes:
    • Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs.
    • A good plan, violently executed now is better than a perfect plan next week.
    • Unless it comes unasked out of your heart, your mind and your gut, don’t do it.
      • TF – I Don’t write a book because I want to, but because I have to get it out of my head.
    • Everything you want in the world is just outside of your comfort zone.
    • If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, then you will fail above everyone else’s success. – James Cameron.
    • I want to stay as close to the edge a I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you don’t see from the center.
